Showcasing Circular Sanitation
During the 2023 Architecture Biennale, the German Pavilion presented a self-contained, waterless sanitation system that served as both an exhibit and a living laboratory. Serving 15 to 20 visitors per day, the setup demonstrated cutting-edge approaches to urine diversion, dry feces collection, and greywater recycling. On-site technologies included nutrient stabilization, urine dehydration, and reverse osmosis filtration for reusing handwashing water. This collaborative project by Eawag, IDRO, Ogmo, Finizio, and Urinall highlights how modular, off-grid sanitation solutions can seamlessly integrate into public and cultural spaces.
