The term resource-oriented sanitation systems (ROS) summarizes a variety of technologies that aim to recover the resources in human excreta and wastewater on site wherever possible instead of flushing them away via the sewer system. In this course, various ROS approaches will be presented and their potential for wastewater treatment and the circular economy will be discussed. In addition to technologies and specific application examples, the legal and economic framework conditions will also be discussed.
