LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA
Showcasing Circular Sanitation
During the 2023 Architecture Biennale, the German Pavilion presented a self-contained, waterless sanitation system that served as both an exhibit and a living laboratory. Serving 15 to 20 visitors per day, the setup demonstrated cutting-edge approaches to urine diversion, dry feces collection, and greywater recycling. On-site technologies included nutrient stabilization, urine dehydration, and reverse osmosis filtration to reuse handwashing water. This collaborative project by Eawag, IDRO, Ogmo, Finizio, and Urinall showcases the integration of modular, off-grid sanitation solutions into public and cultural spaces.
