Legal Clarity and Compost from Dry Toilets

Since 2022, the VaLoo Impact Project Composting has transformed waste from mobile dry toilets – used on construction sites, at public events, and in parks – into safe, high-quality compost. Through a collaboration between Kompotoi, the project has optimized heat-composting processes, implemented rigorous quality control measures, and collaborated with cantonal and federal authorities to establish legal frameworks that enable the reuse of composted toilet waste. Kunz Baumschule composts the solids, and the urine is transformed into liquid fertilizer using the Vuna Process.
