Legal Clarity and Compost from Dry Toilets

Since 2022, the VaLoo Impact Project Composting transformed waste from mobile dry toilets – used on construction sites, at public events, and in parks – into quality compost. Through a collaboration between VaLoo, Kompotoi and Kunz Baumschule, the project has optimized thecomposting processes, implemented rigorous quality control measures, and collaborated with cantonal and federal authorities to establish an enabling legal framework for the reuse of composted toilet waste. Kunz Baumschule composts the solids, and the urine is transformed into liquid fertilizer using the Vuna Process.
