CRESSY: Geneva's First Circular Sanitation Building

Case Study: Cressy

CRESSY
Geneva’s First Circular Sanitation Building

Completed in 2011 by the Cooperative Équilibre, the Cressy project is Geneva’s pioneering example of a fully circular sanitation system in a residential setting. The 13-unit building separates and treats urine, feces, and greywater onsite. Dry toilets with composting chambers, a urine treatment system that produces odorless fertilizer (Pitribon), and a garden-based constructed wetland illustrate a comprehensive, decentralized approach to sanitation. The project was made possible through the collaboration of the Cooperative Équilibre and aneco, with maintenance supported by residents and aneco alike.
